The RedKings Poker App has been a permanent guest in our top 10 ranking of best Poker Apps for a couple of years now. The company behind the brand is called SkillOnNet and is – among other things – also responsible for the DrückGlück Casino. Since September 2016, the poker software has been coming from Microgaming. Being one of the pioneers when it comes to mobile Poker, RedKings already released its first Android Poker App in 2012. One year later RedKings also introduced an iOS App. In September 2016, there was a big relaunch – back then still in the Ongame network. Shortly thereafter, there was another big change, when the poker room moved to the poker network MPN. We’ve tested the App’s most recent version in detail and are going to introduce you to said App as well as the operator in our test report in-depth. Registration and download – how to play at RedKings

For all the hasty ones: Before we’ll have a closer look at the RedKings Poker App, let’s turn to the question: Where can I download the App? Luckily, since summer 2016, the answer has been rather easy. You don’t need to download the App anymore. In 2016, there was a big relaunch of the App. Ever since this relaunch, the App has been completely based on html5 and can be started directly in the browser of your tablet or smartphone. Our step-by-step instructions tell you how to play RedKings poker on Android or iOS.

Redkings Poker for Android

In order to use the RedKings Poker Android App on your mobile you should follow these steps:

• Follow this link to get to the new RedKings website.
• Click “Play Now” or “Log-in”. If you haven’t got an account yet, just click on “Register Now” below the login mask. Alternatively, you can also directly open the menu and select the point registration there.
• Enter all data that are necessary to open up a players account.
• Then start the Android Poker App directly in your smartphone’s browser. We recommend adding the App to your home screen. You can now open the poker software like an apk. And speaking of an apk.: There is no need to download a RedKings apk. at all. The old App has been replaced by the new html5 version.

Redkings Poker for iOS

If you want to use the Poker App for iPhone or iPad, just follow our short instructions:

• Click this link to be forwarded to the new RedKings mobile poker lobby.
• With one tab on “Play Now” or “Log-in” you can log in to and start the new Microgaming Poker App. If you haven’t got an account yet, just click on “Register Now” below the login mask. Alternatively, you can also directly open the menu and select the point registration there.
• Fill in the short form to open up a new poker account.
• As soon as you completed these steps you can open the RedKings iPhone App/the version for iPad in your smartphone’s or tablet’s browser. Our suggestion: Add the App to your home screen. Reliability of RedKings: Is the poker room trustworthy?

Now that we explained how you to install the App on your mobile phone we’ll have a closer look at the provider. Who’s behind the poker room? Is RedKings reliable and has an official license? Have there been any cases of fraud or rip-off? In case you’ve never heard about RedKings poker or SkillOnNet, we can give you an all-clear: RedKings is trustworthy. Here’s why:

SkillOnNet and Microgaming – the networks behind RedKings

The brand RedKings belongs to a group of online casinos and poker rooms that are operated by the gambling company SkillOnNet. SkillOnNet has grown a lot in the last two years. Its most popular brand is “DrückGlück Casino”. Whereas SkillOnNet is license holder of RedKings Casino, Poker is part of the Microgaming Poker Network (MPN). After bwin had left the Ongame Network when merging with Partypoker, at times RedKings was one of the last Ongame Poker Apps. In September 2016, RedKings moved to Microgaming. The change has brought many advantages for the players. Among other things, the number of opponents at Microgaming is six times higher than it had lately been at Ongame. And in contrast to the Ongame App the new App at Microgaming offers a fast fold poker variant called “Blaze”.

Is Redkings Poker licensed?

The whole Microgaming Poker Network ist operated with a license issued by the Malta Gaming authority. The operator SkillOnNet and the brand RedKings are also licensed by the UK Gambling Commission.

The RedKings Poker App review

Since you’re now informed about the poker room and the download it’s time to have a more detailed look at the RedKings Poker App. Which functions and gaming variants are there? What about the game flow and the player’s quality? Those and other questions are going to be answered in our detailed software test.

Gaming variants at RedKings mobile

Since September 2016, after moving to Microgaming, basically only cash games and the fast fold variant Blaze have been available in the RedKings Poker App. The lack of Sit ‘n Gos and tournaments, therefore, have been criticized. At our last check of the poker room in the middle of October 2017, the game offer looked much better again. The app offers now Hold’em and Omaha Sit ‘n Gos as well as tournaments next to Cash Games (No Limit Hold’em & Pot Limit Omaha). In addition, a new game variant was introduced with Fish Party Sit ‘n Go. In this game variant the prize money will be diced before the start of the game. With a buyin of € 5, the prize pool can be between € 10 and € 500. With a bit of luck (chance of 5 to 1.000.000) you play for the progressive jackpot, which is worth several tens of thousands of euros.

When it comes to the size of tables RedKings has recently begun to totally concentrate on 6max tables – with the exception of cash games. There, also heads up tables are available, where two poker players can have a poker duel.

These days with Blaze – but without multitabling

We were really disappointed when we discovered that the App stopped offering multitabling in September 2016. In a former test, we praised the then Ongame App. Now, this feature is totally missing in the Microgaming App. However, instead of multitabling there is a mobile fast fold client once more. Those who have a seat at a Blaze table are automatically seated at another table when they fold their cards. This provides for a higher speed and less boredom and makes the missing multitabling feature bearable.

Mobile real money poker or play money poker – It’s your choice

Another plus of the App is the fact that it now also offers play money tables again. In the mobile lobby you can chose from free play Texas Hold’em and free play Pot Limit Omaha. With those tables you can try the RedKings Poker App completely for free.

Updates: Those functions have recently been added to the App

Relaunch September 2016: Many things changed in connection with the long-awaited and comprehensive conversion of the RedKings Poker App in the summer of 2016. And only a couple of months later it has all been wastepaper, because in September 2016 the poker room moved to Microgaming completely. With the new poker network also came a totally new software. Since we’ve already described that further above another listing of all the features is unnecessary. If the current App is extended or improved, we’ll update this part right away.

Points of critique: This is where RedKings could still improve

From our point of view it’s too bad that the App doesn’t offer multitabling anymore. And on top of that also the handling of the new Microgaming RedKings Poker App isn’t free from defects. For example we’ve been redirected from the App to the mobile website a couple of times while doing our test when we were trying to select a different gaming variant. Obviously, there can still occur some bugs after a software change. Still, we hope that RedKings fixes those shortcomings soon.

Speaking of the handling: There are two more points of critique, which could have been avoided in our opinion. Firstly, RedKings mobile cannot be started in the app-mode. Even though RedKings promotes that you can save the web-app on the home screen of your Android or iPhone, if you then start the poker App by using the newly added symbol, you nevertheless see the URL line of your mobile browser. There could have been a more elegant solution.

What’s absolutely redundant is the fact that the poker lobby is aligned upright. Microgaming forces its customers to hold their mobile phones in the portrait-mode if they want to select games in the lobby. If you arrange your phone in the landscape-format, you’ll see this screen:

In contrast, when sitting at the table the player has to hold his or her mobile phone in the landscape format in order to be able to gamble. We definitely understand the latter, since the poker room needs some space with all its buttons. However, the fact that Microgaming doesn’t offer a lobby in the landscape-mode is a shortcoming that should be easy to fix but that’s nevertheless very annoying. If you switch two or three times between tables and lobby and you have to turn your phone all the time, you’ll know what we’re talking about. So again: Please do us a favor and fix this.

Game flow and handling – this is how the App performs on smartphone and tablet

We’ve tested the App among others on an iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 as well as on a Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S7, iPad and Galaxy Tab. RedKings did a great job concerning the tables’ illustration in their App. Next to the table itself there is now a nice background, which you can also switch off. Visually, that’s definitely a step forward!
In the new version the poker App runs very smoothly even on slower devices and there have been no technical problems during our test. Some detail concerning the App’s handling: Underneath the poker table you find the normal betting options like fold, check or bet/call. On the right edge of the screen you can chose your bet when it’s your turn. All in all we’d say that the RedKings App’s handling is generally pretty well done.

RedKings Poker App features for your mobile.

After you opened up your account you can log-in to the Poker App. Afterwards, you can chose from different real money tables. In addition, the home screen of the App also offers an options menu. Next to sound options you can e.g. also set whether the blinds should be paid automatically (at Blaze that’s the standard setting) or that you want to play with a four-colour deck. One click on “Fun View” and you can switch on and off the sketched background.

When being in the lobby you can enter the menu and make deposits or withdrawals, have a look at current promotions as well as check out the hands that you’ve played so far when clicking on “Play History”. You select the game type by sliding through the different file cards in the middle of the screen. One fingertip on the menu and you can chose from different gaming variants as well as set the limits and size of the tables.

Thanks to the new html5 solution RedKings allows you to make your payments directly from within the App. That means that you can make deposits through the mobile Website before you can then begin to poker in the App.

What does the RedKings Poker App offer for beginners?

RedKings definitely put a lot of effort into creating a poker App that is suitable for beginners. At the cash game tables all players always start in the anonymous mode and are seated automatically. Thus, you only chose your buy-in. Afterwards, the software automatically assigns you a table. And instead of seeing the names and avatars of your opponents all you see at the “Texas Hold’em Anonymous Table” are masked players with numbered names. Though this might appear a little impersonal at first it makes it harder for experienced players to identify newcomers and therefore prevents them from being ripped off.

Since RedKings actively cares for the protection of inexperienced players, we award the App the title of Beginner friendly Poker App.

The opponents stay anonymous at the cash game tables. That’s great for beginners.

Redkings Poker for PC and Mac

When RedKings moved to another poker network in September 2016, they obviously didn’t just replace their mobile poker App for Android and iOS – now also the Poker software for PC and Mac comes from Microgaming. In the desktop client there is a much greater range of games and options you can chose from. You can either download the software or play directly in the browser. Even the RedKings Instant Poker software offers a great selection of games and options. Here, you also have access to said anonymous tables. However, you can also have a seat at regular tables and chose yourself who you want to play against.

On PC and Mac the size of tables is not limited to 6 players. You can also play at bigger tables with up to nine players. And of course there are also tournaments and Sit & Gos. All in all, RedKings for PC and Mac offers a greater selection.

The software-client for PC and Mac makes a good impression. The range of games is greater than in the App.

In order to get the bonus of up to 1500 Euros you have to collect loyalty points. You do that automatically when playing at RedKings real money poker tables. For every Euro of rake (which is the share that the poker room earns) you get 10 loyalty points. The bonus will be unlocked in 10 packages. How much rake you have to generate to unlock a package depends on the amount of bonus.

A problem we have noticed is the fact that it is not possible to play games in demo mode without creating a player account. Compared to the desktop casino the mobile casino is almost of the same quality. The mobile website is very user friendly and you can play over 100 slots in an instant play modus. If you prefer table games over slots the mobile offering is a bit more limited than on desktop but you are still able to find the most popular casino table games. Unfortunately, RedKings does not offer a live casino for smartphones or tablets.

Conclusion: This is how the RedKings Poker App performed

When it comes to the technology the RedKings Poker App sadly didn’t convince us 100%. It’s clearly arranged and fast but the handling is a little circuitous. Also, we discovered some bugs when the App just came out. The range of offered games was limited after the move to Microgaming, but now again tournaments and Sit & Gos are available via the app. It’s very disappointing that there is no multitabling available. At least the App now offers a fast fold game called “Blaze. Also, the bonus offer left a very positive impression: a bonus of up to €1500 is pretty impressive.
